The Solar Industry Roast is a satirical consumer advocacy platform. We use humor, parody, and community-driven commentary to spotlight systemic problems in the residential solar industry — including deceptive sales practices, installation failures, warranty disputes, and corporate accountability gaps.
Content published on this platform is protected expression under the First Amendment. Roasts, headlines, and community commentary are satirical in nature and should not be interpreted as statements of verified fact unless explicitly cited. We operate in the tradition of consumer advocacy journalism combined with comedic commentary.
That said, satire is not a license to defame, harass, or endanger. Every piece of content on this platform is subject to the rules below.
All submissions must meet the following requirements before publication:
Posts must be based on your own experience or verifiable public information. No fabricated stories, no secondhand rumors presented as fact.
Never include phone numbers, home addresses, Social Security numbers, email addresses, or financial account details — yours or anyone else's. Our automated systems will block submissions containing PII.
You may name companies, brands, manufacturers, and distributors when describing your experience. Call them out. This is protected consumer speech.
Do not name any individual people — no CEOs, no sales reps, no installers, no one. We roast companies, not people. Use descriptors like 'their CEO,' 'my sales rep,' or 'the installer.' Posts containing individual names will be rejected.
Screenshots of contracts, emails, or photos of installations strengthen your post. Redact any personal information before uploading.
Do not submit duplicate posts about the same experience. Update your existing post if circumstances change.
The following content is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal and potential account suspension:
Any threat of physical harm, property damage, or intimidation — direct or implied — against any person or company.
Publishing private residential addresses, personal phone numbers, or other identifying information intended to enable harassment.
Content targeting individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.
Knowingly false claims presented as fact with intent to deceive. Satire and opinion are protected; fabricated evidence is not.
Unsolicited advertising, affiliate links, or repetitive promotional content. Company representatives may respond through the official Company Response system.
Pretending to be another person, company representative, or government official.
Posting copyrighted material without permission or fair use justification.
Content that solicits, promotes, or facilitates illegal activity.
We use a graduated enforcement system. Every moderation action is logged in our audit system for transparency and accountability.
First violation of community guidelines. Content is removed and a written warning is issued. The warning remains on your account record.
Second violation or a serious first offense. Posting privileges are suspended for 7–30 days depending on severity. You may still view content but cannot submit, comment, or vote.
Third violation, or any single act involving threats, doxxing, or illegal content. All posting privileges are permanently revoked. Existing content may be removed at moderator discretion.
Every piece of content on this platform goes through a multi-layer review process:
All submissions pass through our content screening engine which checks for PII (personal information), threats, doxxing attempts, spam patterns, and prohibited content. Submissions that fail screening are blocked before they reach the moderation queue.
Posts that pass automated screening enter the moderation queue for human review. Moderators evaluate content against these Community Standards before approving publication.
Every moderation action (approve, reject, delete, warn, ban) is permanently recorded in our audit log with the moderator's identity, timestamp, and reason. This ensures accountability.
Published content can be flagged by any community member using the Report button. Reports are categorized (harassment, spam, misinformation, etc.) and reviewed within 24 hours.
If your content is removed or your account is suspended, you may appeal by contacting [email protected] with your case details. Appeals are reviewed by a different moderator than the one who issued the original action.
We believe in fairness. Companies named in roasts have the right to respond. Our Company Response system provides a structured, transparent way for companies to address community content.
Any company named in a published roast may submit an official response — a rebuttal, correction, additional context, or apology. Responses are reviewed by moderators before publication.
Company respondents must provide a verifiable corporate email address and their name and title. We may contact the company to verify the respondent's authority to speak on behalf of the organization.
Approved company responses are displayed directly on the roast post, clearly labeled as 'Company Response' so readers can see both sides.
Companies may respond to content but may not request removal of posts that comply with our Community Standards. Factual corrections are welcome; censorship demands are not.
Companies may submit legal notices (DMCA, defamation claims) through the Company Response system. These are reviewed by our legal team. Frivolous legal threats will be published as content.
Community voting determines content visibility and ranking on the platform.
Each visitor may cast one upvote or downvote per post. Votes are tracked by visitor ID to prevent manipulation.
Using multiple accounts, bots, or coordinated campaigns to artificially inflate or deflate votes is prohibited and will result in a permanent ban.
Content is ranked by a combination of vote count, recency, and engagement (comments, shares). Featured posts ('Roast of the Week') are selected by moderators based on quality, relevance, and community engagement.
The highest-voted roasts of all time are preserved in the Hall of Flame — a permanent record of the community's most impactful content.
By submitting content to Solar Industry Roast, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your submission across all Solar Industry Roast platforms and channels.
Approved submissions may be shared on Solar Industry Roast social media accounts, including X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok. Content may be reformatted or excerpted to fit each platform's format.
Your chosen display name (or 'Anonymous' if selected) will be credited when your content is shared. We will not reveal your real identity if you submit anonymously.
Content submissions are voluntary. You will not receive monetary compensation for submissions that are shared on our social media channels or featured on the site.
You may request removal of your content at any time by submitting a removal request. Removal from the site will also remove the content from future social media distribution, though previously published social posts may remain on third-party platforms.
